Postnatal Recovery Kit (The MUTU Pack)

A whole postnatal setup in one box, and not a scrap of plastic in it. The MUTU Pack brings together five pieces of kit for rebuilding core, glute and pelvic floor strength after birth, so you are not hunting round for bits and pieces before you can start. Everything is light, quiet and small enough to leave out in the living room, which matters when your window to train is twenty minutes and a sleeping baby.

The pack was produced for the MUTU System programme and carries MUTU branding on the box and sleeves. The kit stands on its own though, and works alongside whatever postnatal routine you are following.

What is in the box

• The MUTU Resistance Loop, a soft pink fabric loop in Light resistance, for glute bridges, clamshells and hip work
• The MUTU Resistance Band, a green latex-free flat band for stretching, mobility and full-body strength
• The MUTU Ball, a soft inflatable ball for core and inner-thigh work, with a paper inflation straw included
• The MUTU Strap, white cotton webbing with metal D-rings, for supported stretches and holding position
• A pelvic floor guide to help you start well

Plastic-free, all the way through

The packaging was designed to be opened and then recycled, not opened and then felt guilty about. There is no plastic film, no shrink wrap, no bubble wrap and no polybag around any of the five pieces. The outer box is kraft card, every item sits in its own printed paper sleeve, and even the straw you inflate the ball with is paper rather than plastic.

The line printed inside the box puts it plainly: you won't find any plastic packaging here, just 100% recyclable. Flatten it when you are done and the whole thing goes out with the rest of your card.

It is a small thing on its own. It is less small when you are getting through a lot of parcels in the first year, and every other one arrives wrapped in something you cannot put in the kerbside bin.

How to use it

• Loop it around the thighs for glute bridges, clamshells and lateral walks
• Squeeze the ball between the knees to bring the inner thighs and deep core into the movement
• Work the flat band for gentle upper-body strength and shoulder mobility
• Run the strap around the feet for hamstring and hip stretches you can actually hold
• Build up slowly, and stop at the point where your form goes rather than pushing through

Recovery after birth runs on its own timeline for everyone. If you are coming back to exercise for the first time, it is worth a word with your GP or a women's health physiotherapist before you begin, particularly after a caesarean or a difficult birth.
